The new concession holder has the right to explore all bussiness in the city airport, like all services to passengers, car hire, shops, restaurants, stocking of cargo, shoppings and conventions center, etc.

Scheduled to open in 2013, Sao Gonçalo will be the largest airport terminal in Latin America and the seventh largest in the world, with capacity to handle 5mn passengers/y.

At the BRICS & Boao summit for Asia in Boao, China Brazil president Dilma Rousseff points out the advantages of investing in Brazil, especialy in the airports and energy sector. ( 15 de abril de 2011 - 06h07 )

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has said that her government will make "a strong intervention" to ensure that the airports are ready
( World Cup 2014 and Olympics 2016 ), including opening them up to private investment ( there are some airports that still are waiting for licences ).

Even with the addtional airports ready in time, 14 of the country's 20 airports would be operating over capacity.
The main sollution for this lack of capacity and other challenges is exactly the São Gonçalo de Amarante airport
( it is also Brazil's biggest international airport and first privatised airport. It is the most strategical airport because it is the entry to Brazil and it is necessary to efficiently and safely organize all air traffic ).

Not every city has two international airports.
Especially if it is not a very big city and especially if one of those two airport is the biggest airport of one of the most sustainable and fastest growing continents of the world.

Not every new president guarantees and heavily invests in an international airport.
Especially if this new president is an economist ( also taking great political risk ) then this president must have a very good ( also rational ) reason.

Brazils air traffic still grows at an astounishing over 20 % a year ( this without the big events and in plain global crisis ).
Eager to avoid a collaps of the Brazilian air traffic during the World Cup in 2014 and wanting to speed up preparations for the World Cup in 2014 she wants to isolate the Brazilian airports ( Infraero ) from politics and the Ministry of Defense ( to decrease bureaucracy and increase effciency and speed ).
Dilma Rousseff wants to create a autonomous ministry that rules the Brazilian airports ( then only supervised by the Brazilian Government and by a competent technical person ).

Triangle South America, Europe and USA.
But also Africa ( and the Middle and Far East ).
All of us know that on the other side you will find the Pacific Ocean that covers half of the globe with blue and is unsuitable for new important air traffic routes and hubs.

We think that as in international commerce new routes will go directly South South with Natal as the most important hub ( and than also connect to the developed world mainly the US ).
In any South South route Natal is unavoidable when connecting with the US ( still by far the biggest economy ).
Natal is unavoidable when connecting with Latin America ( Brazil, Argentina, Chile, ... )
This South South orientation is shown by the current demand for new airplanes but also by the fact that Dubai will overtake London as the biggest airport in less than 10 years giving ever more weight to the South South Route.

Both Natal airports ( and our Project ) are at the lower point of this triangle
( connecting Brazil with Europe and USA or connecting North and South America, Europe and Africa ).
Off course most planes still come from the South-East of Brazilie and Argentina (mostly tourists) and this is not indicated on this map/globe with triangle.

During World War II the Allies (Americans) constructed Natal airport because it was then the closest crossover and the only possible crossover for their planes to reach Europe.
Natal (Brazil) was during the war the busiest airport in the world.
It still is the only place where some of the biggest planes of the world are able to cross over with full passenger and cargo capacity used.
Even for the planes that can, this is the most fuel efficient and safest cross over the Atlantic.

Funny enough back then, it was an airport city ( on arrival you could sleep at the airport in a hotel ) and it will be again.

Back then Brazil was a very undeveloped, a closed land and economy.

With the new international airport ( and Brazil quickly becoming one of the biggest and fastest growing economies of the world )
this airport is bound to be one of the busiest airport hubs of the Western hemisphere and the world again.
In fact both Natal international airports are relatively new ( the first Natal international airport became international less then a decade ago ).

Now a land with the dimensions of a continent and the largest reserves of water, hydro and alternative energy and fuels (like ethanol, eco diesel and eco kerosene) and basic commodities (like iron) with one of the largest direct foreign investments of the world is obliged to have a huge hub (and the best and most logic place is) in Natal
(able and ready to receive the biggest airplanes of the world).


Actually there is not sufficient capacity where it is needed ( at the North-East corner ).
The airport system nearly collapsed a few years ago for a prolonged period of time.
With a booming GDP of around or approaching 8% ( second only to China ), with domestical aviation growing at a much higher pace, with the world cup and olympics in view, Brazil cannot afford not to have this airport in place soon ( as the president points out ).

President Dilma Rouseff is foreseeing this for years ( while still minister under the Lula government ) and is eager to realize the potential of Brazil and was preparing, promoting and creating this airport long before she run for president

The new international airport São Gonçalo ( do Amarante ) will be ready in mid 2013 and will be one of the biggest of the world
It is the only Latin America airport able to handle Airbus A380, Boeing B787 Dreamliner and Boeing 797 ( planned giant plain for about 1000 passengers ).
There are only a few airports in the world that can handle them.
The new airport has a planned capacity of 40 million passengers a year ( in the second phase).
This will make the Litoral Norte ( North Coast ) of Rio Grande do Norte the International Real Estate Hotspot for years to come.
It will be the official Air Portal for Brazil.
Runways and taxiways are already ready ( the airplane parking plots are in a final stage ).
The airport concession tender will be launched 23 th August 2011 ( the rules are published by Anac ).

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has signed a decree allowing the privatization of Rio Grande do Norte state's Sao Gonçalo de Amarante airport.
The tender is expected to be launched in H2, and will be worth some 1bn reais (US$544mn), news service Agencia Estado reported.
The first phase of construction is budgeted at around 800mn reais and should wrap up by 2012.
The airport has already received 105mn reais in federal funding through the country's growth acceleration plan (PAC). The federal government will invest about 155mn reais by year-end to complete their works.
Scheduled to open in 2013, Sao Gonçalo airport will be the largest airport terminal in Latin America and the 7th largest in the world, with capacity to handle 5 million passengers/year ( first phase and 40 million in the second phase ).
Natal is one of the host cities for the 2014 World Cup.
